Shifalaya was started by Pr John Mathai in June 1991. This new congregation was assimilated into the FGC-fold by Pr Mathew Oommen. When Pr MO completed the construction of his residence cum FGC Office, this church was shifted to a good hall that could easily accommodate 175 people on the carpet.
Pr Joy Varghese was appointed as the 2nd pastor in December 1998. Pr Shibu joined the church in July 2000. God led him to fast and pray for 40 days for Sagarpur in Oct-Nov 2001. During this fast, God spoke about an explosive growth in ministry in Sagarpur. Immediately after this fast, Pr Shibu was appointed as pastor of this church in November 2001. In early 2002, God spoke of the church as the healing branch thrown into the bitter waters of Sagarpur. In response, the church was named "Shifalaya (Healing Home)".
